What is PICO Laser?
Discovery PICO uses the most advanced laser technology for the treatment of pigmentation and aged skin, and for tattoo removal. Standing out from the traditional Q-Switched lasers that breaks down the pigmented particles into granules, Discovery PICO works in picosecond pulses, fragmenting the particles into a really thin “dust” and breaks up melanin and pigment particles. The procedure is safe, simple, comfortable, and fast. The skin will be cleansed prior to the treatment and laser-protective goggles are positioned over the eyes. The laser beam will then be directed towards the area of concern, allowing the laser energy to penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin.

Conventional lasers are less powerful and only able to break pigmentation down into relatively large granules. With Discovery PICO, the increased power are able to break pigments into fine dust. Smaller particles are easier for white blood cells to engulf, thus allowing the body to remove them more quickly. This effectively allows better results to be seen more quickly and in fewer sessions.
The conventional lasers are more concentrated but less powerful; they need to stay on longer to penetrate the skin. This is why conventional laser treatments often leave your skin burnt, which may cause further problems down the line with more pigmentation forming. Discovery PICO Laser are able to more quickly penetrate the skin in a shorter period of time due to the increased power. This prevents the laser from heating up from long exposure periods on your skin and will not cause redness associated with conventional lasers. Treatments are less painful and are able to recover in a much shorter period.
Conventional lasers use round beams; this may seem innocuous but it actually creates an uneven effect. Round lasers are more concentrated and can cause a stronger effect in the middle of the spot, resulting in weaker effects in the area surrounding the focal point Discovery Pico uses a square tip that can be easily trailed one block after another to ensure even coverage. Its revolutionary technology spreads the focus of the laser so that it is evenly intense to provide a more even, natural result.
Picosecond laser treatment is less painful than nanosecond delivery methods of tattoo removal or pigmented lesion removal, but both are considered tolerable.
There will be discomfort during and after a treatment session. The level of discomfort you feel depends on the area where the tattoo/lesion is located and your personal pain threshold. Any discomfort is fleeting and will be resolved quickly.
